Opening World Public Relations Forum 2024 – Bali, Indonesia

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Distinguished guests,

Esteemed speakers,

Fellow PR professionals,

Associate partners

and my dear friends from around the world,

Om Swastiastu, Selamat Pagi, Good Morning

Selamat datang! Welcome to Bali!

On behalf of Perhumas, the Indonesia Public Relations Association,

it is an honour and pleasure to welcome you all to this year's World Public Relations Forum, on this beautiful island of Bali, where tradition meets innovation, and where, I hope, you will find inspiration and collaboration for the journey we are on together.

Today we are at the Grand Opening of the World Public Relations Forum 2024.

It is the second day conference, as yesterday we had a very productive session of the Global Communication Knowledge Conference.

Tomorrow we will continue with the Indonesia PR Convention and will be followed by the Indonesia Young PR Gathering on the the following day.

We are excited to welcome so many accomplished leaders and professionals from around the world to Indonesia, as we explore this year's theme, “Purposeful Influence for the Common Good.”

Today, Public Relations has evolved beyond strategic communications and stakeholder engagement has become an engine of positive and meaningful change that reaches every corner of our society.

As a member of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management, Perhumas is deeply committed to supporting this important mission.

We share a vision of PR as a force that not only exerts influence but also ethical and purposeful influence that prioritizes the common good.

Each of us, in our roles, organizations, and communities, has the opportunity to shape narratives that build trust, inspire hope, and unite people toward sustainable solutions.

This year, we face new challenges, such as the concept of BANI-Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, and Incomprehensible evolution of the VUCA world we all lived through in previous years.

It is a time when the fragility and complexity of our world are tangible, requiring us to redefine and expand the way we communicate and lead.

With Artificial Intelligence reshaping our tools and strategies, we must also face unprecedented ethical considerations.

AI challenges us with transparency, authenticity, and responsibility.

As professionals committed to purpose and integrity, we must be vigilant in upholding ethical standards, ensuring that AI serves as a tool for empowerment, not division.

In addition, the forum will explore Indonesia's contribution to a sustainable and resilient PR ecosystem.

We believe that sustainability is critical to the future of our field approach, that not only respects the environment but also the social ecosystem that sustains public trust and understanding.

Indonesia, as a diverse nation with a deep respect for harmony and balance, is honored to play a role in promoting sustainable practices in our profession.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to invite us all to reflect on the question:

“How do we inspire an increasingly complex and information-rich world?

This question is at the heart of our work today, and I believe that the answer begins with one word:

Trust.

And Trust is of course based on one core principle:

Responsible Communication.

Responsible communication means that we must be able to manage information wisely, ethically, avoid the spread of fake news, and ensure that we contribute to constructive discussions, promoting inclusion and diversity.

Ensuring that the voices of all parties are heard and valued, furthermore creating space for open and respectful dialog.

In doing so, we contribute to a better world through responsible communication practices.

As we will begin this discussion in a moment, I encourage each of you to share openly, explore new ideas, and embrace innovation.

Together, we can advance our field in a way that honors the values we hold dear and prepares us for the challenges of a new era in public relations.

Ladies and gentlemen,

On this note I would like to thank:

All Esteemed Speakers;

President of Global Alliance, Prof. Justin Green and all the board members of Global Alliance

The Honorary Council of Perhumas, The Advisory Board of Perhumas and The Board of Experts of Perhumas

Central Board Management of Perhumas including Perhumas Branch Management Body and Perhumas Youth

Katadata Indonesia and all sponsors and partners

And of course all of the participants

Thank you once again for joining us in Bali.

We are truly grateful for your dedication, passion, and commitment to making public relations a force for trust, purpose, and progress.

Let us move forward together, driven by the principle of Responsible Communication. I look forward to an engaging and fruitful conference ahead!

Salam Indonesia Bicara Baik

Thank you
